Grid Transformation Program Lead

Serving more than 160,000 residential and business customers in the City of Kitchener and Waterloo, Township of Woolwich, Wilmot, and Wellesley, Enova Power Corp. is the 7th largest electricity distribution utility in Ontario.

Reporting to the Manager of Innovation and Energy Management, this position is responsible for working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and relevant stakeholders to support the research, development, and implementation of emerging technologies and innovations which are transforming the energy sector relative to grid modernization, load management, and customer expectations. In support of building a culture of innovation, the incumbent will act as an advocate for innovation, assist with research, and support in various areas including studies and pilots of new processes and technologies that align with Enova’s strategic objectives. They will assist with identifying and applying for external funding, preparing applications, and coordinating the implementation of innovation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Supports the coordination and implementation of demonstration projects, grid innovation and business transformation initiatives that align with Enova’s strategic objectives
  • Collaborate and support cross functional project teams that are involved in research, development and implementation of innovation related projects
  • Solicit and document lessons learned for each innovation project that can be applied to future projects and initiatives
  • Develop and support collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, business partners, vendors and industry experts and assist in the mobilization of internal resources to ensure organization readiness for change and new business models
  • Monitor and research technologies, business models, market transformation initiatives and advancements, government, regulatory and industry legislation and/or standards and their impact and application on the energy industry in the context of electrification, sustainability and climate change
  • Support the development of digitalization and digital transformation strategies
  • Assist with identifying, researching and applying for external funding for innovation initiatives.
  • Provide support for project/program financials including budgeting, forecasting and tracking
  • Support Corporate Occupational Health & Safety initiatives by incorporating safe work practices into daily work routine and reporting any unsafe conditions or work practices to the supervisor.

Knowledge/Education
  • 3-year Diploma or a University degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Energy and Sustainability, or a related discipline
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) is an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of research and development techniques
  • Intermediate knowledge of the energy and utility industry including existing technology trends, grid modernization, emerging distributed energy technology and innovations impacting the energy industry including i.e. energy storage systems, microgrids, electric vehicles (EVs), or demand response.
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical distribution systems design, asset management, grid management systems and load management technologies
  • Intermediate knowledge of energy transition and innovation funding opportunities
  • Intermediate knowledge of OEB Codes and Regulations and Occupational Health and Safety Act
Experience
  • 4-6 years’ experience working in an electric utility, technical consulting, or related organization
  • 3 years’ experience in project management, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven ability in project coordination and implementation
  • Experience in leading or supporting organizational change initiatives related to technology adoption
  • Experience with digital tools and data analytics platforms is an asset
  • Experience in cross functional team collaboration and coordination
  • Experience with developing funding applications
  • Technical and analytical mindset
  • Valid Class “G” driver’s licence

Salary Range: $103,000 to $128,000 annually
