Summary:

The Geospatial Technician supports collection, processing, analysis and interpretation of geospatial data and remote sensing data. The Geospatial Technician travels to projects as a drone pilot and collects remote sensing and survey data. Under the guidance of more experienced Geomatics staff, this role provides support in survey, cartography, data manipulation, geographic information analysis, and database management for all phases of wind, solar, transmission and energy storage projects. Field work requires remaining at project sites until collection is completed (typically 1-3 weeks).

This role will be hybrid requiring a minimum of 3 days in office.

Requirements:

  • Collects lidar and photogrammetric data utilizing drones.
  • Collects additional field data, including surveyed ground points.
  • Processes and analyzes photogrammetric and lidar data.
  • Compiles spatial data from internal teams.
  • Utilizes geographic data from a variety of sources including census, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, ALTA surveys, engineering documents, etc.
  • Prepares and manages metadata.
  • Performs quality assurance and control on data products.
  • Supports projects by providing requested information.
  • Performs surface comparison and quantity calculations, with guidance.
  • Supports survey staff by providing support files.
  • Data collection requires some physical work in adverse weather, including extensive walking over uneven terrain.
  • Operates Company aligned vehicle for site and surveying visits. Drives between site locations during daytime and nighttime hours and in varying weather conditions in order to complete site surveys.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Highschool diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in UAV/drone science, remote sensing, geographic information systems, cartographic science, or geodetics preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License and/or Canadian equivalent required.
  • 1 or more years’ experience in drone-based data collection preferred.
  • 1 or more years of data processing or utilization of GIS/CAD software experience preferred.
  • 1 or more years of traditional field survey experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel 51 to 75% domestically and internationally required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • GIS/CAD software (ArcGIS, Global Mapper, AutoCAD).
  • Microsoft Office (Excel including data sorting and filtering, charts, formatting, pivot tables, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • DJI flight planning software.
  • Experience with remotely-sensed data processing and analytics is preferred.
  • Field experience, including drone-based data collection.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work & learn independently.
  • Ability to work professionally with clients, vendors, employees, managers and supervisors.
  • Knowledge of survey, including experience using Trimble GPS survey equipment, is preferred.
  • Experience using lidar scanners is preferred.
  • Functional competencies include attention to detail, excellence, collaboration, agility, and ethics & integrity.

Anticipated base salary range: $25.96 – $32.21 per hour

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
