Purpose
The Franchise Specialist is part of a national team responsible for leveraging market area expertise for the profitable growth of the Bank’s franchising portfolio in their region and for developing new customer acquisitions. In this role, you will acquire new franchising customer relationships through engaging local franchisees, COIs serving the segment and Scotiabank partners and associations with a footprint in the local market. You will be responsible for meeting negotiated goals set forth by their National Director, which includes business acquisition and development within the marketplace, business planning for their franchising segment, development of existing COI relationships / acquisition of new relationships and being the market area expert in the franchising segment. The ideal candidate will have Small Business and Commercial Banking experience with proven sales results and a passion for networking and relationship development. This is a 100% business development role and a vehicle will be required. The region of responsibility is the Ontario West region.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Acquire new franchising business owner relationships by planning and completing relationship building activities, onboarding new franchising customers, discovering banking needs, collaborating with Wealth Management, assisting Scotiabank partners in marketing tactics and structuring / closing high value deals, responding to requests for banking solutions, and ensuring setup aligns with plan.
- In a hunter role, acquire and grow the market area portfolio of high value franchising customers, COIs and Association relationships to achieve growth while meeting Service Standards.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of franchising customers in the local market, provide specialized franchising expertise and maintain relationships with COIs.
- Acquire a market area credit portfolio at an acceptable level of risk by working with Credit Adjudication and EO Franchising and ensuring proper documentation.
- Contribute to the market area’s financial and non-financial objectives by understanding and aligning with Business Banking goals, adhering to security procedures, regulatory requirements and risk management frameworks.
- Understand and consider the Bank’s risk appetite in day-to-day activities; pursue effective operations and day-to-day controls for operational risk, regulatory compliance, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information
- Post-secondary education: accounting, finance, business law, economics, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in franchising (educational or work).
- Knowledge of business products/services, selling tools, and marketplace franchising dynamics.
- Familiarity with software/technology platforms for Business Banking (ACE, GRM, Sales Builder, Intralink, etc.).
- Knowledge of risk management policies, legal/security documentation, marketing and business development techniques.
- Knowledge of branch procedures, business legal structures, financial statements (franchising), and related cross-functional offerings (Small Business, Wealth Management, Commercial Banking, Enterprise Solutions).
- Ability to build and maintain key relationships, influence others, and demonstrate strategic planning and organizational skills; flexibility to handle diverse tasks.
Working Conditions
- Standard office environment, but 90% of time away from office, traveling to conduct marketing activities and meet with customers, COIs, and events.
- Client demands may extend beyond standard hours.
