The Fire Ranger/Fire Fighter position is located in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the Fire Chief. Their primary focus is carrying out fire duties in accordance with the CFFM’s Fire Prevention Program and Fire Marshal’s Directives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responds to Wildland and Structural fire emergencies.
  • Responds to auto extrication and Hazmat emergencies.
  • Inspects and coordinates the maintenance for handheld fire extinguishers of all classes.
  • Cut and maintain fire breaks using chainsaw and hand tools.
  • Performs routine inspections of fire apparatus, equipment, and fire station facilities to ensure operational readiness and safety compliance.
  • Conducts Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (ITM) of all fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and repair of all tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a physical ability to work in arduous environments.
  • Maintain a grooming standard that allows for proper respirator protection device fit.
  • Strictly adheres to the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal’s Fire Protection Program, Fire Marshal’s Directives, departmental policies, procedures and any other governing documents applicable to the fire service.
  • Participate in 16-hour shifts.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 2 years in the fire service
  • Red Cross First Aid & CPR/AED level C
  • Red Cross BLS
  • NFPA 1001 level 1&2
  • NFPA 1072 or 472 Hazardous Materials Operations
  • DZ Driver’s licence
  • Ability to obtain Level 2 (secret) security clearance
CONSIDERED AN ASSET
  • Commitment to volunteerism and community involvement as demonstrated by experience volunteering in social/civil/community events and initiatives, non‑profit organizations, counselling, crisis intervention.
  • Currently in good standing member of a paid‑on‑call fire department.
  • Training and Experience operating heavy vehicles.
  • Military and/or health care experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Due to many mandatory vaccination requirements at client projects / facilities, in order to provide substantial employment by ensuring compliance with our clients’ mandates, the successful candidate may be required to validate full vaccination prior to hire.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction.
  • *Must be able to achieve and maintain a Government of Canada Security Clearance* - continuous residency in Canada for the last 10 years is a mandatory requirement.
  • *Must possess a clear driver’s abstract and be able to obtain and maintain a military 404 Driver’s License*.

Individuals who successfully complete the interview process and do not already hold a valid security clearance will be sponsored for Secret Security Clearance. To obtain a Secret Security Clearance from the Government of Canada, applicants must undergo a comprehensive 10‑year background check. This includes financial and criminal record checks, as well as a security assessment conducted by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). Applicants will be required to provide detailed information covering the past 10 years, including employment, education, and residency history. For this reason, continuous residency in Canada for the last 10 years is a mandatory requirement.
