Job summary

A government agency in Halifax is looking for a skilled tradesperson to perform construction duties including reading blueprints and building structures. Applicants should have a secondary school graduation certificate, 2-3 years of experience, and be physically fit. This position does not allow remote work. Physical presence is required at the job site.

Qualifications

  • Experience between 2 to 3 years in similar roles is preferred.
  • Must be physically fit for demanding tasks.
  • Reliability and organizational skills are essential.

Location

Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments
