A healthcare organization in Newfoundland and Labrador is looking for Practice Nurses to provide effective patient care as part of their team. The roles involve offering treatment for minor injuries, conducting health assessments, and supporting chronic disease management. We are looking for either one full time or 2 part time Practice Nurses to work as part of the practice nursing team to provide effective nursing care, according to practice policy, using a range of clinical skills. To undertake the delivery of nursing care for patients as a self-directing practitioner, working with the Partners to meet medical needs as appropriate.
Provide care for minor injuries, wound dressings, and escalate to GPs or community care as needed, while supervising junior nursing staff. Perform cervical cytology, immunisations, and support vaccination programmes, promoting services to hard-to-reach patients. Assist with LARC and minor procedures, act as a chaperone, and supervise clinical tests (e.g., blood pressure, phlebotomy, spirometry). Deliver health promotion, travel advice, and triage patients to appropriate clinicians. Support chronic disease management and provide patient counseling on conditions, medications, lifestyle, and test results. Offer crisis support and break bad news sensitively. Collaborate with community nursing for home care and ensure seamless illness episode management. Maintain accurate records using practice systems and support clinical audits, infection control, and medicines management. Manage clinical stock and equipment with practice managers. Uphold professional conduct, maintain NMC registration, pursue ongoing CPD, and participate actively in team meetings and training. Provide constructive feedback, challenge colleagues when necessary, and promote high standards in patient care and teamwork.

Participation in a six monthly individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

Health and Safety
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health and Safety Policy to include:
Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
Notifying the Practice Manager immediately of any changes in Health and Professional Registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
