About Us

The Office of the Provost provides leadership and strategic direction to the Academic and Administrative Leaders within Western University and the Academic Portfolio in order for the Faculties to be successful in teaching, research and administration.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership support and advances institutional objectives related to the portfolio supporting the Provost and Vice-President, Academic. The Executive Director is a senior leader responsible for project execution, relationship building, planning, change management, researching relevant data and information and implementation of University strategies, working closely with the Deans, Vice-Provosts, Associate Vice-Presidents and Special Advisors. The strategies usually involve campus wide initiatives (e.g. online and work integrated learning, curriculum renewal projects, etc.), which promote the reputation of the University, its people, education and research successes in order to raise public awareness and influence external stakeholders.

The Executive Director also oversees the Office of the Provost, directs and mentors staff, ensures expedient workflow, leads staff in the mapping and updating of operating procedures and cyclical processes that occur in the Provost's office, such as searches, renewals, reviews, and performance assessments, to ensure smooth and timely outcomes and administrative excellence.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration or another relevant discipline combined with suitable employment experience
  • A Master's Degree with specialization in Finance or Management or other professional credentials (e.g., CGA, CA, CHRP / CHRL, project management (PMP), or such like) would be an asset
  • 10 years of professional experience in a large and complex university or post-secondary environment, demonstrating expertise in university decision-making processes, strategic planning, building strategic relationships, and project management
  • The ideal candidate should also possess a profound understanding of university goals and objectives, showcasing comprehensive knowledge in academic, student affairs, and administrative decision-making processes

  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills for assessing complex issues in post-secondary education
  • Facilitative and consultative leadership style, emphasizing respect and inclusion of all stakeholders

  • Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects and a high volume of work with competing priorities within constrained timeframes

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, modify and measure the effectiveness of strategic plans and priorities, with a proven ability to operationalize and implement strategy
  • In-depth knowledge and proven commitment to both equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and Indigenization
  • Ability to develop networks and relationships, and to consult others and build collaborative relationships and support with a wide range of contacts
  • In-depth knowledge related to process improvement, change management principles, and project management skills
  • Proven ability to establish priorities and exercise sound judgment
  • Initiative, tact, discretion, and a high degree of confidentiality is required
