Job summary

A vibrant municipality is seeking a co-op/summer student in the Engineering department. This role offers the chance to gain diverse engineering experience related to utilities and flood protection. The successful candidate will conduct data analysis, prepare reports, and support utility planning using GIS and other tools. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required, and preference will be given to civil engineering students. A competitive salary of $25.93 - $30.41 per hour plus benefits will be provided.

  • Experience with GIS and AutoCAD would be an asset.

The City of Delta is a vibrant municipality that is rich in soil and water, rich in history and industry, and especially rich in people. We have an exciting opportunity for a co-op/summer student to join the Engineering department. The successful candidate will work in a supportive team with the opportunity to attain a broad range of engineering experience including utilities, steep slopes and flood protection.

The successful candidate will be responsible for some of the following assignments:

  • Collect, analyze and interpret datasets to identify trends and patterns;
  • Use tools and software to process and evaluate the data, ensuring accuracy and relevance;
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing the findings including graphs and tables;
  • Communicate information in a clear, concise manner for the audience;
  • Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other mapping software to prepare detailed maps to support utility planning;
  • Participate in the planning of utility systems including water, wastewater, and storm water infrastructure;
  • Prepare cost estimate for projects; and,
  • Other assignments as required.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Experience in GIS and AutoCAD would be an asset; and,
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Required Licences:
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.

Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a focus on civil engineering studies. Previous experience related to utilities and municipal engineering services would be an asset.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $25.93 - $30.41 per hour + 12% in lieu of vacation, public holidays and benefits. Interested applicants are requested to apply online by March 4, 2026.
