We are seeking passionate & self-directed Early Childhood Educator to join our team and collaborate with us at our beautiful location in Ladysmith, BC on central Vancouver Island. This is a casual position commencing as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for planning and implementing appropriate activities that follow the children’s interests
- Acts as lead staff when working with Early Childhood Assistants (ECA), non-ECA staff, and support staff
- Responsible for the constant supervision, safety, and well-being of children
- Provides a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment, showing sensitivity to the individual needs of children in all aspects of development
- Observes children for daily health and ongoing observations for signs of potential learning or behavioural concerns and prepares written documentation for the Early Learning Lead
- Assesses the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discusses progress or concerns with parents and appropriate staff members
- Ensures children are dressed appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities
- Conducts daily health checks of children; records illness and informs Supervisor; contacts parents as necessary
- Provides ongoing supervision of the classroom, playground, group, individual and routine activities
- Communicates regularly any issues of mutual concern, both verbally and in writing, with parents, school staff, centre staff and outside resources
- Regularly evaluates the program to ensure it meets the needs of individual children and the group; sets goals and meets licensing criteria and public health guidelines
- Maintains accurate attendance verification checks during indoor, outdoor, transitions, and field trips; notes checks on attendance sheets
- Assists to ensure the overall health and safety of children by maintaining a sanitary and safe environment (sanitizing toys and equipment and signing off)
- Prepares children for monthly fire and/or emergency drills and debriefs with the group/individual children afterwards to identify strengths and areas for improvement
- Remains current on the status of all children’s allergies and other special conditions, especially for children in direct care
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with families by providing ongoing support and resources
- Accommodates the parent/guardian’s instructions for daily care routines whenever possible
- Complete other tasks as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year experience as Licensed Early Childhood Educator, issued by Early Childhood Registry
- Valid First Aid certificate as required by Childcare Licensing
- Demonstrated understanding of the BC Early Years Framework and childcare licensing regulations
- Able to lift and/or move between 10 pounds up to 30 pounds
- Frequent combinations of sitting, climbing, standing, walking, balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, and crawling
- Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities and environments
- Able to handle exposure to high noise levels, bodily fluids, infectious illness/diseases
- Eligibility for clearance of a Criminal Record Check for Working with Children & Vulnerable Adults
