Our Chalk River location is looking for a Drill Rig Operator to join the team. Apply today!

What will you be doing!

  • Assisting in the drilling of wells and boreholes using both rotary and percussive drill rigs, following appropriate regulations.
  • Maintaining wells to ensure preservation of groundwater and the ability to take representative samples.
  • Assisting in regularly collecting well water level measurements from over 2000 wells across the Chalk River Site as directed by the site geohydrologists.
  • Allowing accurate mapping of groundwater flows and mapping of known contamination plumes.
  • Helping in the collection of contamination readings of soil and vegetation.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Minimum of secondary school graduation.
  • Experience
    • Experience with heavy equipment.
    • Experience working in all weather conditions.
    • Demonstrated experience with rotary and percussive drill rig operation is an advantage and an asset.
    • Demonstrated aptitude for mechanical equipment servicing and maintenance would be an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to follow specific procedures and maintain accurate logs.
    • Heavy equipment (i.e., drill rig equipment) familiarity and ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • Radiation protection and safety-related procedures would be an asset.
    • Knowledge of drilling methods, depth measurement and site preparation would be an asset.
    • Awareness of local and environmental regulations relating to drilling activities would be an asset.
    • Licensed to operate light motor vehicles (G).
    • Possession of DZ licence would be an advantage.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Physically fit, capable of lifting, carrying and handling the borehole drilling tools and equipment within occupationally-approved limits.
  • Must be willing and able to wear respirators and other personal protective clothing and equipment as might be required by the job.
  • Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all seasons.
