Salary or Pay Band: $152,737- $206,644 per annum commensurate with experience.
The Saskatchewan Medical Association is a voluntary professional association for physicians in Saskatchewan, where over 90 per cent of physicians are members. The SMA also represents the vast majority of medical students and residents training in Saskatchewan.
We represent the collective view of the medical profession in Saskatchewan, and negotiate for and on behalf of fee-for-service, salaried and alternate payment physicians.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent to Director, Finance & Corporate Services join our growing team! Reporting to the CEO, this position is responsible for overall strategic leadership in finance and accounting, as well as other corporate services, including information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and facilities management.
This position is based on-site at our office in Saskatoon, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option allowing remote work from home up to 1 out of 5 days per week subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads coaches and supports an extended team of 9 employees by performing regular coaching, performance management mentoring skills development, and team building across a diverse group of staff roles.
- Provides leadership in the effective management and stewardship of financial and accounting functions for the association to ensure the organization’s long‑term sustainability.
- Oversees the financial planning and monitors cash flow for the SMA General account and multiple government‑funded programs.
- Ensures the association’s financial reports are timely and accurate and meet the internal and external reporting requirements.
- Oversees accounting procedures, controls, and processes.
- Treasury and investment management.
- Oversees the audit relationship and acts as the co‑signature for all audit‑related engagements.
- Oversees the organization’s budget development, including a broad complement of individual program budgets.
- Provides lead support and planning resources to the Finance Committee.
- Provides senior leadership and oversight to ensure HR policies and programs meet relevant standards and legislation. Recommends professional development opportunities for all staff to meet organizational and ongoing professional goals.
- Provides senior leadership and oversight to ensure the organization has adequate IT infrastructure and resources to deliver on its mandate; that information is safeguarded in terms of cybersecurity and business continuity; that the enterprise software systems are optimized and integrated; and is accountable for technology‑related process improvements.
- Provides oversight and is responsible for facilities management concerns of the organization.
- Oversees the effective stewardship and management of the association’s offices, equipment and supplies, including ensuring the appropriate Occupational Health & Safety needs are met for employees.
- Acts as the SMA’s senior representative to the building’s property manager.
- Participates in strategic and operational decision‑making of the SMA as a full member of the SMA Senior Leadership Team, with specific responsibilities to advise the CEO in the areas of risk management within their portfolio.
- Develops and maintains key strategic partnerships and strong relationships with external agencies e.g. the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Ministry of Health, College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Medicine, other Provincial Medical Association.
- As assigned by the CEO, provides management and leadership to SMA projects.
- Provides input and advice to the SMA Board as needed.

Education
- Master’s degree in accounting, or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
- Experience in IT management and association management is an asset.
- 10+ years of senior level leadership, preferable in the health sector, government sector, or member organization sector, with a proven successful career as a business service professional with broad business acumen.
