Employee Status : Part Time (FTE 0.40)

Reporting to : Executive Director

Date Available : Immediately, until on or about April 15, 2027

Rate of Pay : To commensurate with qualifications and experience

Position Summary

Generations Calgary is currently looking for a dedicated, motivated, and passionate individual to join our team as a Dietitian. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team, the Dietitian is responsible for menu planning, review and approval. The Dietitian provides therapeutic services to individual residents including nutrition and swallowing assessments. The Dietitian works in collaboration with the Food Services department to ensure food services meet all legislative standards, policies, and resident satisfaction. Treats residents with dignity and demonstrates an attitude of caring.

Responsibilities
  • Complete initial and regular nutritional assessments for all residents
  • Work with the interdisciplinary care team to identify nutritional needs and goals for each resident upon admission and quarterly / annually thereafter. This includes participating in completing the Minimum Data Set – Resident Assessment Instrument (MDSRAI) data entry
  • Assess each resident\'s level of nutrition and hydration risk to determine nutrition interventions and follow-up care
  • Perform swallowing assessments and make recommendations on diet texture, meal time assistance techniques, and safety precautions.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate nutrition care for each resident using established standards of care, practice protocols, and guidelines in the area of enteral support, oral supplementation, and diet progressions
  • Integrate recommendations into the resident\'s care plan and communicate changes effectively with the care team
  • Consult and collaborates with the Food Services Department to plan the menu, texture modified diets and other dietary matters as they arise
  • Approve the rotating menu
  • Communicate results of nutrition assessments to nursing staff, the food service department, residents, and family members
  • Provide nutrition / dietary counseling / education for residents, family members / decision makers, and staff for the purpose of supporting optimum nutrition care
  • Responsible for routinely reviewing resident weight data and following up with an in-depth nutritional assessment and revise the nutrition care plan as appropriate
  • Maintain dietary records and key indicators
  • Participate in resident care conferences and relevant committees as required
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in nutrition and completion of an approved internship
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in a clinical setting
  • Experience in caring for the geriatric population in a continuing care setting is an asset
  • Current Registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a South Asian Diet is an asset
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, MDS IntraRai, and Point Click Care)
