Position Overview

This role of Diagnostics Technician will support operation of diagnostics equipment on General Fusion’s experimental testbeds. The Diagnostics Technician will help assemble, maintain, refurbish, and troubleshoot an assortment of complex optical, electrical, and mechanical apparatus. The position is located on site at General Fusion’s facilities in Richmond, BC, and may require some shift work or flexible hours.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install and remove, maintain, refurbish, and troubleshoot optical, electrical, and mechanical diagnostic equipment
  • Precision optomechanical and electromechanical assembly with small and fragile components
  • Provide input and suggestions for improvements in diagnostic designs and assembly procedures
  • Perform calibration work and basic data analysis
  • Plan and thoroughly document work during and after completion
  • Collaborate within the organization to attain company goals
  • Maintain a clean, organized lab, shop or workplace
  • Prioritize personal and co-worker safety
  • Other tasks as requested
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree (Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a research or industrial environment working with instrumentation and equipment
  • Hands-on experience with lasers, optics, opto-mechanics, and / or fiber optics
  • Hands-on experience with electronics, soldering, and electrical test equipment
  • Excellent attention to detail and experience with precision assembly
  • Ability to work efficiently and adapt in a fast-paced research and development environment
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and execute work independently
  • Strong multi-disciplinary skillset with demonstrated experience in diagnosing, repairing and solving system / equipment challenges
  • Experience with tools and fabrication equipment
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Basic computer literacy (Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Ability to work in restrictive spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 20kg
  • Experience in Python or other coding languages (C++, C#) preferred
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM) preferred
  • Familiarity with 3D printing (SLA or FDM) preferred

This role requires self-directed work that often is driven by employee initiative. The successful candidate will have the expertise to focus their attention on tasks that add value to the project at hand.

The typical salary range for this position is $70,000 - $84,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
