Job description

As a member of the data science team, I regularly tackle complex and intellectually rewarding problems that push the boundaries of technical innovation.

Data Scientists

Data scientists at Analysis Group help design, implement, and maintain creative solutions to high-profile business, economic, and financial challenges across multiple industries. To this end, data scientists are responsible for staying abreast of new developments in technology, advanced analytics, and AI, and finding novel ways of applying them in a variety of domains.

The Data Science team at Analysis Group is dedicated to ensuring we remain at the forefront of economic consulting, tackling work that includes both targeted problem solving for individual cases and broader, forward-looking initiatives such as designing and building infrastructure to support future analytical needs.

Candidates

Our ideal candidates are intellectually curious, with a proven track record of analytical excellence and a passion for applying data science to real-world research challenges. Successful data scientists at Analysis Group possess strong consulting acumen and excellent communication skills. They thrive in collaborative problem-solving environments and have a passion for continuous learning and professional growth.

Ideal candidates for all positions should hold or be pursuing an advanced degree in data science, economics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Strong quantitative and programming skills, particularly in Python and R, are essential. Experience in Linux environments, docker containerization, cloud computing, and back-end and front-end development is a plus, but is not required. Candidates must be comfortable tackling new, complex problems and adapting to evolving technical challenges.

  • Collaborating with project teams to address data science and computing challenges, acting as a resource in client engagements and research while influencing the choice of technology and methodology.
  • Developing end-to-end data engineering and machine learning production systems for working with unstructured data such as electronic medical records and social media.
  • Optimizing procedures for managing and accessing large databases (e.g., insurance claims, electronic health records, financial transactions) and creating interactive analytics portals and data visualizations using tools like R / Shiny, Python / Flask, and D3.
  • Leveraging high-performance computing tools on grid and cloud computing environments, and developing software packages in R, Python, and other object-oriented languages.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of computing tools, providing technical training, and helping grow the in-house knowledge base of the data science landscape, while establishing optimized procedures for repetitive or computationally intensive tasks.

Analysis Group hires data science interns each summer. Data science interns work on complex business problems within an inclusive and collaborative environment :

  • AG case work : Throughout the summer experience, data science interns are staffed on real case work to gain exposure to our projects. Responsibilities are equivalent to a full-time data scientist or senior data scientist.
  • Summer programming : Over the course of the experience, the intern cohort attends topical presentations to get to know the firm, our work, our people, and our practice areas. Analysis Group also hosts senior staff touchpoints so that interns can network with leaders at the firm to learn about their career paths and our culture.
  • Mentorship : Providing a strong support system from day one is very important to us. Interns have a peer mentor and advisor who guide them through their summer experience, support them through onboarding, and help them network with individuals outside their direct team.
  • Evaluation and assessment : As they conclude their internships, interns are evaluated for the opportunity to return to Analysis Group as full-time data scientists. If interns are offered a full-time position and accept, the firm will invest in their professional development and growth.

Core Values at Analysis Group

We believe that a strong and diverse workforce directly supports our goal to provide the highest-quality work, and we are guided in all that we do by principles of fairness, inclusion, and non-discrimination. This drives our commitment to strong talent and business practices that provide rich opportunities to people of all backgrounds.
