Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of top-tier client accounts, acting as the primary consultant for customs matters, recurring programs, and regulatory inquiries.
- Set up and maintain customs programs such as recurring duty drawback claims, CBSA audits, appeals, and ruling requests; conduct mock audits and provide compliance recommendations.
- Conduct research and develop written regulatory opinions on classification, valuation, origin, duty relief, and other trade-related matters; support CBSA applications as needed.
- Prepare and submit appeals and rulings to CBSA, CITT, and Department of Finance, articulating strong regulatory positions on behalf of clients.
- Provide Level 2 support for regulatory inquiries received through the shared consulting email group, escalating to Senior Consultants or manager as appropriate.
- Participate in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with clients to discuss customs activity, compliance risks, and value-add opportunities.
- Identify consulting opportunities and pursue them independently or in collaboration with Sales to support revenue growth.
- Serve as a regulatory resource to internal stakeholders including Operations, Sales, Client Relations, and Tariff Analysts.
- Deliver training sessions and webinars for clients and internal teams on customs regulations and compliance best practices.
- Share knowledge and provide coaching to Advisors and peers; contribute to onboarding and ongoing internal training.
- Support the preparation of client notices and regulatory updates and ensure client profiles are updated to reflect regulatory changes.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with CBSA and other government agencies, communicating clearly and professionally on behalf of clients.
Qualifications
- College degree
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) – an asset
- 7+ years of comparable Customs experience
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to multitask, organize, lead, motivate, and teach.
- Thorough understanding of International Business and trading practices
- Ability to negotiate and build strong relationships.
- Ability to prioritize based on the urgency of the request from either co-worker’s, clients and / or government officials.
