Construction Manager

As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion On-Corridor Works scope : new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Construction Manager will be responsible for the successful planning, design, and construction of Alstom’s logistical support facilities and project laboratories.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Consolidate inputs from subsystem teams to produce a cohesive strategy
• Accurately track and manage all necessary scopes from inception to completion
• Produce and update budgets and present as needed
• Manage external contractors related to maintenance of building and facilities operations
• Monitor contractor Quality & Performance in accordance with established objectives and goals
• Support the construction of new projects for facilities and production scopes
• Seek to continuously improve processes, systems and operational activities
• Develop and define scoping documents for various procurement packages
• Liaise with the project planning team to develop and maintain the facilities implementation schedule
• Liaise with the Supply Chain manager to successfully implement Alstom’s warehousing and inventory software as needed
• Lead the procurement of supplies and services as required, working closely with sourcing for placing purchase orders, supplier management and invoice/payments administration
• Occasional weekend and after hour support may be required at times

MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements

• Experienced Technician, Mechanical Engineering background an asset

• 7-10 years in similar positions.
• Management: Sense of urgency and ability to make decisions and prioritize. Results oriented.
• Organization: Planning and development of activities with order and method.
• Operational: Operational efficiency, teamwork, transparent communication, innovation.

• Specific knowledge of buildings and general installations (Mechanical Equipment, Machinery, HVAC, Electricity, Overhead Cranes, EHS).
• Experience working with external Suppliers & Contractors in a production environment
• Knowledge of office automation and monitoring and control equipment.
