Job summary

A healthcare organization in Winnipeg is seeking a Critical Care Nurse to provide educational support within the Emergency Department. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of related clinical experience and be a graduate of a post-basic course in Intensive Care Nursing. Position Overview
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years recent clinical experience in Critical Care Nursing (Intensive Care) required.
  • Recent teaching experience (e.g. facilitating for an educational institution, delivering in-services to interprofessionals in a clinical setting, teaching formalized education programs, and/or other similar recognized adult teaching experience) required.
  • Experience in planning, developing and evaluating educational programs preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of post-basic course in Intensive Care Nursing or recognized equivalent required.
  • Master's of Nursing preferred.
  • Eligible for academic appointment with University of Manitoba.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Responsible to maintain and provide proof of active registration the professional body with which they are registered.
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Health Care Provider registration required.
  • CPR Instructor Level an asset.
  • Advanced preparation in Adult Education preferred.
  • CNA certification in critical care an asset.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of:
    • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice.
    • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
    • Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards of Practice.
    • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
    • Regional/Facility/unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
    • Nursing care knowledge related to critical care clinical area.
    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices and other legislated acts.
    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
    • Principles of delegation.
    • Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of common software.
    • A comprehensive knowledge of adult education, the research process, program development and evaluation and health care theory and practice.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or a group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue professional self-development opportunities.
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the health care team.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.

Physical Requirements

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
