Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Clinical Assistant to join our team. The Clinical Assistant provides support to Registered staff and helps maintain a safe, comfortable, and caring environment for our residents. This role plays a key part in ensuring high standards of care, safety, and resident well-being while supporting the overall operations of the Home.
Responsibilities
- Assist in meeting operational needs as directed by the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager, or Clinical Lead.
- Support residents by portering to / from meals and scheduled programs.
- Assist with feeding of dependent residents and provide meal assistance as per care plan.
- Monitor, distribute, and restock resident care supplies, including IPAC supplies.
- Ensure resident clothing, personal belongings, and assistive devices are labeled, stored, and maintained properly.
- Provide clear communication and documentation of resident care needs to team members.
- Practice infection control measures at all times; ensure timely handling of laundry.
- Conduct bedside and clothing audits as required, with appropriate follow-up.
- Actively participate in fire and disaster drills.
- Assist with resident admissions, discharges, and orientation for new residents / families.
- Provide end-of-life care support to residents and families.
- Help orient new staff as directed.
- Support front desk operations including scheduling, photocopying, and stocking supplies.
- May conduct tours for prospective residents and families.
- Fill in for PSW shifts if qualified under FLTCA, 2021 requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program (meeting FLTCA, 2021 requirements), Medical Receptionist, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of long-term care policies, procedures, and resident care needs.
- Understanding of infection control and sanitation practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
- Empathetic, mature, and sensitive to resident needs.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Must be available to work weekends as part of a rotation.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying.
- Dexterity required for handling instruments and equipment.
- Ability to detect changes in residents' conditions through visual and hearing acuity.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, minor cuts / burns, unpleasant conditions, and potential strain from resident care activities.
- Work performed indoors in a well-lit, ventilated environment.
