Job description
Responsibilities
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
  • Survey building locations and levels
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Supervise other workers
  • Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
  • Administer first aid in emergency situations
Qualifications
  • Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years
  • Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Personal protective equipment (PPE) training; Working at heights training; First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate; WHMIS Certificate; Carpenter Red Seal Certificate; Fall Arrest Protection Training Course; CSTS Certificate; Confined Space Entry Training
  • Type of heavy equipment operated: Bobcats
  • Equipment and machinery experience: Lifting device
  • Security and safety: Criminal record check
  • Transportation / travel information: Own transportation; Valid driver’s licence
  • Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads; Physically demanding; Tight deadlines
  • Own tools / equipment: Steel-toed safety boots; Hard hat; Safety glasses / goggles
