Responsibilities
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
- Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
- Survey building locations and levels
- Instruct apprentices
- Supervise other workers
- Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
- Administer first aid in emergency situations
Qualifications
- Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate or equivalent experience
- Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years
- Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Personal protective equipment (PPE) training; Working at heights training; First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate; WHMIS Certificate; Carpenter Red Seal Certificate; Fall Arrest Protection Training Course; CSTS Certificate; Confined Space Entry Training
- Type of heavy equipment operated: Bobcats
- Equipment and machinery experience: Lifting device
- Security and safety: Criminal record check
- Transportation / travel information: Own transportation; Valid driver’s licence
- Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads; Physically demanding; Tight deadlines
- Own tools / equipment: Steel-toed safety boots; Hard hat; Safety glasses / goggles
