Business Support Officer Position No : 226733 Level / Salary : Level 4, $95,782 - $100,526 (PSCSAA 2024) Work Type : Fixed Term - Full Time Branch : Enterprise Security & Risk Management Location : Perth Closing Date : 2026-01-20 4 : 00 PM

THE ROLE

This role will serve as a driver for ensuring that WA Police Force security measures align with the Cyber Security Strategy as well as regulatory requirements, and risk management strategies.

The fundamental responsibilities for this role will be to align cyber security with business objectives, risk management and compliance, improving communication with non-technical teams, enhancing cyber resilience and optimising security investments. WA Police face evolving threats, complex regulatory requirements, and the need for secure digital transformation. This necessitates a specialised role that bridges the gap between cyber security and business strategy.

KEY DELIVERABLES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and conduct audit as per schedule which includes areas such as Essential 8, NIST CSF, ISSG
  • Commence work packages under the NIST initiatives: Security Incident Response, Monitoring and Logging, Identity Access Management – scoping
  • Conduct a GAP analysis of Information Security Manual
  • Manage and coordinate Maturity Level 2 between both internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform a GAP analysis of current state vs. latest Maturity Level 1 and plan out activities to implement
  • Assist scoping USB Blocking as well as Wireless Device Policy
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the agency’s cyber capability, tools, and processes; participate in maturity uplift activities and contribute to the improvement of the agency’s cyber resilience
  • Conduct impact assessments of proposed technology or process changes on the agency’s security posture; collaborate with security teams to assess risks and recommend mitigations aligned with policy and frameworks
  • Document and analyse current and future‑state security processes, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement; support initiatives that improve security capability and maturity
  • Develop clear and concise documentation, including business cases, process flows, risk assessments, user requirements, and briefing notes
  • Prepare reports for technical and executive audiences
  • Support audits, policy reviews, compliance reporting, and the development of security frameworks, ensuring alignment with WA Government cybersecurity directives, Essential Eight, ISO 27001

Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.

The CV must also include the names and contact details of two referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work‑Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.
