Your opportunity:

The Experiential Education Unit (EEU) in the Office of the Vice-Principal Academic and Dean (OVPAD), UTM, aims to enrich the undergraduate education experience by promoting and nurturing unique opportunities and approaches to learning both within and outside of the classroom. General areas of responsibilities of the OVPAD include: academic programs, academic HR; academic policy and planning; academic experience; academic integrity; academic appeals; experiential education; teaching and learning support; strategic leadership; divisional research and data analysis; graduate affairs; tri-campus affairs; and more.

Reporting to the Associate Director, External Relations, the Business Development Lead plays a vital role in expanding and strengthening the UTM Co-op Internship Program by connecting students with meaningful work term opportunities through employer and industry partnerships. The incumbent will research and recommend new avenues for collaboration, cultivate relationships with stakeholders of strategic importance, and foster strong connections with both potential and existing employers. By understanding employer needs and aligning them with student academic goals, the incumbent will help create high-quality, co-op work experiences that support student success.

The incumbent will actively promote the program by delivering presentations, developing marketing initiatives, and coordinating networking opportunities between students, employers, and alumni. Responsibilities include organizing events, liaising with industry contacts to identify site-specific placement requirements, and ensuring programming reflects the evolving needs of students and employers. By analyzing employer feedback, market trends, and competitor programs, the incumbent will recommend strategies that increase visibility, strengthen partnerships, and expand student work term opportunities.

Collaboration is at the heart of this role. The incumbent will work closely with faculty, staff, and the campus community to champion student needs while supporting initiatives that enhance industry engagement and long-term partnerships. Through these efforts, the Business Development Lead will help position the UTM Co-op Internship Program as a leading pathway for students to gain valuable real-world experience that complements their academic journey.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing targeted outreach initiatives
  • Developing and revising business methods that support employment services activities and objectives
  • Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers
  • Tracking the status of business development initiatives, activities and outcomes
  • Implementing plans that support the development of work-integrated learning opportunities for students
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Analyzing data to determine trends and recommend target markets
  • Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience in employer/industry engagement, preferably at a post-secondary institution
  • Strong background in business development and outreach
  • Strong background in data analysis and reporting to help guide strategic decisions
  • Working knowledge of various co-op/internship programs offered at post-secondary institutions
  • Excellent relationship management and networking skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent strategic thinking and market analysis skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience using CRM systems, data tracking tools, or marketing platforms
