Building Automation Technologist

Cahill Technical Services, a division of The Cahill Group, is seeking qualified applicants for a Building Automation Technologist to support our Building Controls and Designs Division in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. In this role, you’ll be involved in the design, programming, commissioning, and support of building automation systems for commercial and institutional projects. You’ll collaborate with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure seamless integration and high-quality project delivery.

What You’ll Do
  • Program controllers and perform database development using Niagara AX / 4 and other software tools.
  • Configure system points, build system graphics, and integrate third-party devices and equipment.
  • Perform sensor calibration, pre-testing, commissioning, and measurement & verification activities, ensuring systems meet project requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair building automation systems, applying knowledge of HVAC, electrical, hydronics, refrigeration, and direct digital control systems.
  • Support installation teams by providing technical guidance, on-site troubleshooting, and issue resolution as needed.
  • Maintain and assemble control panels, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Attend turnover meetings, project updates, and debriefs to support smooth project execution.
  • Liaise with customers and provide training on system operation when required.
  • Assist with energy efficiency audits, studies, and projects.
  • Review project plans and specifications to maintain accuracy and alignment with project standards.
  • Interest in learning design using AutoCAD and Bluebeam, preparing them for seamless field installation.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders to achieve cohesive system integration across all phases of the project.
  • Travel to project sites as required.
What We’re Looking For
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma, HVAC or Instrumentation Diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building automation systems, controls design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and building automation software platforms.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is considered an asset. The willingness to learn is required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems with excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
