Manitoba Prosecution Service initiates and conducts prosecutions in all courts of Manitoba for offences committed contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and all provincial statues. Qualifications
Essential:
  • Successful completion of a recognized legal assistant training program and/or equivalent education and several years of legal experience will be considered
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Interpersonal skills that contribute to a respectful workplace and value diversity; including the ability to deal effectively with related system stakeholders
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • File management experience including gathering and compiling information through conducting research
  • Experience in handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to take initiative and make independent decisions
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Justice System including legal terminology, rules of the Courts and policing policies
  • Excellent written communication skills in English

  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), Adobe or equivalent software

  • Working knowledge of Criminal Courts' Automated Information Network (CCAIN), and/or Corrections Offender Management System (COMS)
Duties

Prosecution File Managers deal with and assist members of the judiciary, legal profession, victims and the general public, including self-represented litigants. The ability to deal professionally and with discretion with all Justice Partners is critical along with superior judgement to make the appropriate decisions/recommendations in a wide variety of circumstances as they relate to Prosecution files. They must be able to access information quickly, understand and process the information they can legally provide, and generate any instructions, queries or relevant information to the Justice Partners. This analysis includes being able to interpret information from complex legal documents, identify significant issues and perform the necessary work to locate missing information, conduct appropriate searches and analyze information. Prosecution File Managers must then prepare draft documents, reports, and make requests to various legal and medical professionals all while prioritizing material that is time sensitive.
