Overview

The Halifax Grammar School seeks a full-time Associate Director, IT to support IT Operations and Strategy, including planning, implementing, and maintaining IT systems, hardware, software, security, policies, and usage for current and future environments. With the assistance of an IT Support Specialist, the Associate Director, IT provides IT support to students, faculty, and staff across IT infrastructure, curriculum software installation, training, and user assistance.

They will help ensure students learn in a technologically rich environment and support smooth operation of technology resources to maximize the positive impact on education.

Duties

IT Management
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions; identify and mitigate operational and strategic risks; ensure technology is appropriate, usable, and reliable.
  • Oversee network architecture design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrading with external support as necessary.
  • Manage IT vendor relationships, schedule service calls, and oversee repairs / maintenance.
  • Oversee hardware and software inventory; manage software control, antivirus, backups, and email security.
  • Prepare annual capital budget requests for hardware and software purchases.
  • Provide counsel to senior management to maintain and update best-practice usage for staff and students.
IT Support
  • Directly and indirectly support system and application software, hardware installation, testing, troubleshooting, and updates; focus on continuous improvement of IT service delivery.
  • Supervise, support, and mentor the IT Support Specialist in setup, support, orientation, troubleshooting, and training, following industry best practices.
  • Plan, manage, and complete application software implementations with staff and student training; examples include computer labs, mobile devices, Smart Classrooms, projectors, and learning-space devices.
  • Ensure theatre / auditorium / meeting room AV setup is optimal when required.
  • Support Apple and PC devices; Google, Asana, BlackBaud (MyHGS) and other third-party platforms.
IT Integration
  • Support an environment that encourages instructional technology use based on research-based evidence of good practice.
  • Promote school-supported software in collaboration with the Heads of School; ensure staff and faculty are trained and supported.
  • Research, recommend, and facilitate the use of existing and emerging technologies by staff and students; stay informed of trends in education technology.
Other
  • After-hours / on-call emergency support for administration.
Qualifications
  • A diploma in Information Technology or a degree in Computer Science.
  • Progressive experience with at least five years in an IT department at a supervisory or management level, with prior experience in a Support / Helpdesk role.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Blackbaud, Google Workspace, Fortinet, Microsoft Office, Apple Device Management, monitoring, Chromebooks, Windows devices, and related technologies.
  • Experience supervising other IT staff is required.

The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
