In this role you will play a key role in identifying, assessing and executing CIBC’s strategic transactions (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures and partnerships), private equity and venture capital fund investments and other initiatives. You will be a key member of deal teams, working with the bank’s lines of business and infrastructure groups, developing and conducting due diligence and financial analysis on transactions. You will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical, financial modelling and impact analysis, research, presentation preparation and deal management support and play a key role in CIBC’s portfolio of principal investments (PE/VC funds and direct).

The Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Development group (ES&CD) plays a key role in maximizing the value of CIBC’s portfolio of businesses through the identification, assessment and execution of strategic initiatives and transactions (e.g., organic growth initiatives, acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships and joint ventures). ES&CD works in collaboration with the bank’s business units and functional groups in order to identify opportunities for growth and to increase the value of CIBC’s businesses. The role is varied and often involves periods of very intense activity given tight deadlines and time pressures. It requires dedication, a passion for excellence, and an exceptional work ethic.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You’ll Succeed

Complete strategic and financial analysis to assess the attractiveness of potential M&A transactions and investments. Prepare presentations for internal clients that include CIBC’s Group Executive Leadership Team and its Board of Directors.

  • Financial Modelling, Valuation, and Analysis - Prepare financial models, in-depth valuation, and other financial analysis to assess the feasibility of potential strategic opportunities and transactions, which may include discounted cash flow, comparable company and precedent transaction analysis.

  • Research, Due Diligence and Deal Management – Perform research to evaluate potential opportunities and ensure ES&CD has robust competitive intelligence and strong awareness of trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes. Assist with managing the due diligence process and project management on transactions.

  • Investment Portfolio Management - Support the ongoing development and execution of various reporting of investments to key internal stakeholders on a quarterly, annual and ad-hoc basis. Prepare materials and perform analysis to drive insights and inform decisions for delivery to senior leaders. Monitor the performance of CIBC’s portfolio of principal investments (PE/VC funds and direct).

Who You Are
  • You have a degree in a finance related field (e.g. business, finance or accounting).

  • You can demonstrate experience in investment banking, corporate development and/or corporate finance. You have excellent analytical abilities including knowledge of valuation techniques and practices and can develop sophisticated financial models. It is an asset if you have knowledge of the financial services industry sectors and/or transaction experience in private equity or venture capital funds.
