Marine Atlantic is seeking Chief Engineers to work onboard vessels operating from Port aux Basques NL, North Sydney NS year-round, and Argentia NL during summer. These are permanent full-time spare and relief positions scheduled across our fleet based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer leads all maintenance activities onboard, managing the engine room department, ensuring safe and efficient vessel operation, and fostering a strong safety culture. This role oversees engine room employees, including electrical divisions, and manages environmental programs.

Qualifications
  • Valid First Class Motor Certificate STCW 95
  • At least 24 months recent relevant experience
  • Leadership and team development skills
  • Experience in supply chain, budgeting, and HR management
  • Knowledge of CMMS, ISM, IACS standards
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Marine STCW 6.1 and 6.2, Marine Medical Certificate
  • Confined space training and experience

Preferred qualifications include graduation from a recognized marine school, experience with machinery configurations, Marine Advanced First Aid, and Passenger Safety Management certifications.
