A provincial government agency in Surrey is seeking an Indigenous Liaison to enhance outreach efforts with Indigenous communities. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships, support IIO investigators, and ensure Indigenous perspectives are included in investigations. The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) Outreach team is a small, dedicated group led by an Outreach Investigator. The team builds meaningful connections with Indigenous communities, marginalized groups, police agencies, and other partners to deepen understanding of the IIO’s mandate. The team works closely with investigators and staff to support culturally respectful practices, guided by Indigenous protocols and equity-focused values, helping ensure the IIO’s work is inclusive, thoughtful, and community-informed.
The Indigenous Liaison helps advance the IIO’s outreach and engagement goals by building strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples, communities, and groups. It supports IIO investigators and other staff in deepening their understanding of Indigenous cultures and perspectives, and ensures these are meaningfully reflected in our investigative work. This position is based in Surrey. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies. Enhanced Security Screening (ESS) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
