The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Applicants should hold a valid RPN registration, have experience in oncology nursing, and be proficient in IV Therapy. Bilingual candidates are preferred for this role.

Qualifications

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centered care and high professional standards, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will provide nursing care through the therapeutic application of skills, knowledge, abilities and nursing standards, while collaborating within an interdisciplinary team. Reporting to the Clinical Manager the successful candidate’s home site will be the St Catharines site WFCC but must be willing to work at two or more sites. The focus of this role will be in the Walker Family Cancer Centre Clinics.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certificate of registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS certification
  • One year experience working to the full scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RPN in a healthcare setting
  • Current medication administration within the last two years
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment
  • Successful completion and maintenance of oncology certificate or deSouza Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course
  • Successful completion and maintenance of deSouza Community Based Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course
  • Commitment to ongoing learning
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment (Physical Assessment Course preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill specifically with nursing practice related to paracentesis, thoracentesis, bone marrow aspiration, Pleurxx insertion and maintenance – assessment pre and post procedure
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy Initiation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with CVADs, CADD pumps, Total Parenteral Nutrition, Blood and blood product transfusion, VAC therapy and enteral feeds preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in assessing patient risk and capturing and identifying those risks on patient assessment tools, Braeden Scale, Falls Risk Assessment and Intervention Comprehensive Pain Assessment Tool, and integrate risks into plan of care
  • Knowledgeable regarding care management of Febrile Neutropenic patients
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, and revise an integrated plan of care
  • Applies NH values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
  • Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
