Roles and Responsibilities

• Oversee the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Azure SQL Managed Instances, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Analyze and optimize long-running queries, index strategies, and execution plans to improve database performance.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot database-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution of problems.
• Lead efforts to migrate on-premises SQL Server environments to the Azure cloud, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption to the business.
• Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery processes, backup strategies, and high availability solutions in line with industry best practices.
• Ensure the security of the database environment, including managing access, monitoring for security vulnerabilities, and implementing encryption protocols.
• Develop scripts and automation to streamline database management tasks, such as backups, monitoring, and scaling operations.
• Collaborate with other teams, including cloud architects, developers, and DevOps, to support infrastructure projects and ensure the seamless integration of database solutions.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, procedures, and runbooks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 3 years focusing on Azure cloud environments.
• Proficiency in administering, configuring, and optimizing Azure SQL databases.
• Demonstrated experience in analyzing and optimizing SQL queries, indexing strategies, and execution plans.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for diagnosing database issues, performance bottlenecks, and implementing effective solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with migrating on‑premises databases to the Azure cloud, including strategies for minimal downtime and data integrity.
• Proven ability to design and implement disaster recovery plans and ensure high availability of cloud database systems.
• Proficient in using PowerShell, T‑SQL, or other scripting languages to automate database management tasks.
• Knowledge of database security practices, including encryption, access controls, and vulnerability management.
• Azure certifications are nice to have.
