Instructional Designer
The GP Strategies Content Design and Development team is a premier provider of custom training programs, including :
- Custom online courses with full audio, media, and learner interactivity
- Instructor-led and virtual instructor-led trainings
- Podcasts, recorded presentations, print deliverables, and knowledge assessments
- Delivery to global audiences in North America, EMEA, Asia-Pacific, and LATAM
Summary
Provide instructional expertise and design direction for all assigned projects by interfacing with client stakeholders and cross-functional project team members to deliver award-winning and industry-leading learning solutions.
Key aspects of this position are to
- Identify our clients' performance improvement needs
- Design effective training solutions within project budgets and project expectations
- Support the development team toward successful creation of the vision
- Ensure the overall project quality and success
Essential duties and responsibilities
include the following (other duties may be assigned) :
- Analyze instructional needs by:
- Investigating the solution requirements
- Interpreting business conditions
- Identifying the audience
- Collaborate to create design documentation including:
- Project goals
- Training objectives
- Measurement / evaluation plans
- Multiple solutions to the same problem
- Course content
- Scenarios / scripts
- Practice activities
- Evaluations
- Network and partner with internal and external stakeholders to provide strategic instructional direction.
- Design instructional solutions to ensure an effective learning experience for a variety of audiences.
- Partner with other team members to craft and develop the solution(s)—team members may include specialists in project management, writing, editing, and media / graphics.
- Perform within a variety of team and workflow structures ranging from traditional / waterfall to agile.
- Build effective working relationships with SMEs to efficiently gather content information and feedback.
- Represent a familiarity with a variety of modalities including but not limited to e-learning, ILT, VILT, and self-study as well as programs and curricula.
- When necessary and appropriate, work with teammates to draft learning materials.
- Direct personal development by actively identifying new areas for one's own personal learning.
- Actively engaging in our broader community of instructional designers.
Optional skills
- Supporting client engagements that range from project-based to dedicated commitments
- Specialized experience with specific types of learning content (technical, social, sales, job skills, or compliance)
- Specialized experience with an industry (automotive, insurance, government, aerospace, etc.)
- Creating online courseware with rapid development content tools (Captivate, Articulate, etc.)
- Familiarity with a variety of learning experience modalities and conditions including but not limited to VR, AR, social platforms (e.g., Intrepid, Degreed, EdX, NovoEd), gamification, game-based learning, accessibility, and reporting
- Familiarity with diverse populations of learners (diversity, inclusion, and equality) and the specific and nuanced needs of each
Qualifications
- Instructional design background including strong knowledge of adult learning theory, learner needs, blended learning, modern learning experiences, and delivery of content
- Ability to incorporate the most effective, leading-edge instructional approaches
- Ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders
- Conceptual and strategic thinker, team player, excellent communication skills with clients and coworkers
- Attention to detail and strong work ethic
- Exceptional writing skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under aggressive deadlines (project management and time management skills)
Education
Two to four years' experience within learning and training projects in a corporate environment.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in information design, instructional development, human-computer interaction, HR, or related fields preferred.
Equivalent experience may substitute.
