Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Hedge Accounting Specialist to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end process of hedge accounting, including derivative instruments analysis, hedge effectiveness assessments, and accounting under ASC 815 (or IFRS 9, as applicable).
Responsibilities
- Derivative Instruments Accounting & Analysis: Monitor, account for, and analyze all derivative transactions including forwards, swaps, options, and futures. Ensure proper classification and valuation in accordance with hedge accounting standards.
- OCI (Other Comprehensive Income) Analysis: Prepare and review OCI entries related to hedge accounting. Analyze fluctuations and report impacts on financial statements.
- Hedge Cost Allocation: Analyze and allocate hedge costs between business units or cost centers. Track cost of hedging strategies (e.g., forward points, option premiums) and ensure correct accounting treatment.
- Spot and Forward Points Rate Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis on spot vs. forward points movements and their impact on hedging relationships and financial results.
- Mark-to-Market (MTM) Analysis: Calculate and explain changes in the fair value of derivative positions. Work with valuation models and external pricing sources.
- Hedge Effectiveness Testing & Documentation: Execute prospective and retrospective effectiveness tests (qualitative and/or quantitative). Maintain comprehensive documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Collaboration & Reporting: Work closely with Treasury, FP&A, and external auditors to ensure the accuracy and transparency of hedge accounting results. Prepare reports and dashboards as needed for internal stakeholders.
- Compliance & Controls: Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance with accounting standards such as ASC 815 or IFRS 9. Support external and internal audits as required.
- FX Analysis: Conduct detailed Foreign Exchange variance analysis to identify and explain deviations in currency conversion impacts across global transactions enabling data-driven insights.
You are meant for this job if
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (MBA is a plus)
- Experience in hedge accounting, financial reporting, or treasury operations
- Strong understanding of derivative instruments and financial risk management
- In-depth knowledge of hedge accounting under ASC 815 and/or IFRS 9
- Proficient in Excel and financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Kyriba, or similar treasury systems)
