Job description
Overview

Understands, supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of Organization. Provides age appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. Adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. Promotion of health and delivery of health education.

Responsibilities
  1. Leadership
    1. Demonstrates critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving ability
    2. Promotes an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between health professionals to provide patient and family centered care
    3. Identify, manage and report incidents to immediate supervisor and to physician as required
    4. Acts as role model to fellow nursing staff
    5. Promotes a suitable learning environment for staff, acts as mentor/ preceptor as needed
    6. Supervises practical nurses and practical midwives, junior staff and student nurses to ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care
    7. Demonstrates a working knowledge of resource consumption and practices within a cost effective framework
    8. Actively participates in organizational change in a constructive manner
    9. Performs in-charge duties as delegated
  2. Clinical Practice
    1. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organization’s policy and procedures and the unit scope of service
    2. Demonstrates knowledge in and compliance with the completion of documentation in an appropriate timeframe according to BE policies and guidelines
    3. Demonstrates ability to navigate Malaffi accurately and efficiently
    4. Uses the individualized, integrated plan of care to guide and prioritize care throughout the episode incorporating discharge planning and setting measurable goals daily which are transparent to the patient
    5. Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and does not carry out tasks beyond level of competence
    6. Utilizes evidence based practice in the provision of care
    7. Identifies significant changes in patient condition, initiates appropriate action and reports to immediate supervisor or physician as appropriate. Utilizes early warning scoring tools where appropriate to identify deterioration in a timely fashion and escalates care appropriately as per SEHA policy
    8. Demonstrates knowledge in the assessment and reassessment of pain and complies with BE policies, guidelines and documentation in the treatments and escalation of pain management
    9. Prioritizes patient care based on ongoing assessment of patient needs
    10. Participates in the referral process and utilizes available resources for the provision of comprehensive care to patients and families
    11. Demonstrates service excellence and acts as a patient advocate to support the patient’s rights and dignity at all times
    12. Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding, and appreciation of cross cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society
    13. Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with the seven rights of medication administration, high risk medication and narcotics policy and the medication reconciliation process
    14. Is accountable and responsible to practice within the Ministry of Health and HA-AD Narcotic Policies and Procedures
    15. Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with the reporting of medication errors including near misses or adverse drug reactions on Patient Safety Net
    16. Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organization’s policies and procedures
  3. Communication
    1. Upholds the organization’s customer service standards at all times
    2. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly, timely and concisely using appropriate channels respective to the situation
    3. Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary health care team as required
    4. Actively participates in meetings, rounds and case conferences in the role of primary nurse
    5. Provides comprehensive clinical handover and reports as required to ensure patient safety. Demonstrates understanding of and compliance with SBAR
    6. Establishes and maintains professional boundaries with patients and members of the health care team
    7. Recognizes appropriate communication channels respective to the situation
  4. Performance Improvement/Risk
    1. Participates in quality improvement activities by assisting with the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures and guidelines
    2. Actively contributes to the organizations culture of patient safety
    3. Monitors and assists in evaluating unit operation and services in order to correct problems, improve systems and ensure safe patient care
    4. Ensures provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patients and family
    5. Identifies risk in the environment, escalates and maintains records of reporting if appropriate
    6. Demonstrates knowledge of and is compliant with isolation precautions and hand hygiene
    7. Is compliant with all annual mandatory Health and Safety training as per BE policy
    8. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of, and compliance with International and DOH patient safety goals
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Nursing OR
  • Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum two (2) years course duration AND
  • Successful completion of the National exam
  • USA: NCLEX - RN
  • Canada: Licensing Exam
