Job description

We are currently recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel – Nuclear Energy law to be based in Abu Dhabi.

This person will provide legal support to the company in all matters related to nuclear energy law. The role involves advising on regulatory compliance, safety standards, international treaties, licensing, liability, environmental protection, export controls, and other legal aspects of nuclear operations.

Qualifications include:

  • 8-12 years PQE, holding a law degree (Juris Doctorate or equivalent) from a major law school.
  • Admitted as an attorney in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, or similar jurisdiction.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising on legal requirements for the safe operation of nuclear facilities, including compliance with safety regulations.
  • Handling licensing processes and liaising with nuclear regulatory authorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with laws related to nuclear material protection, international treaties, and liability conventions.
  • Drafting and reviewing agreements, advising on insurance, export controls, and legal frameworks for safety and emergency response.
  • Managing legal compliance in waste management, decommissioning, and environmental restoration.
  • Supporting legal aspects of nuclear energy production, distribution, and workplace safety.
  • Leading and managing legal teams and external counsel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with international nuclear law frameworks, IAEA regulations, and treaties.
  • 12+ years of legal experience in a leading law firm or nuclear energy sector.
