Role Definition

The Senior Economist is part of the Customer Solutions Growth Regions (CSGR), which is one of the commercial facing divisions for Construction Industries segment for Caterpillar Inc. The Construction Industries Segment focuses on providing machinery, technology, and services for infrastructure, building construction, landscaping, and waste management, aiming for an easy customer experience through its dealer network with products like excavators, loaders, and remote-control tech, serving as a core revenue driver for the company alongside its Resource industries and Power and Energy segments. As the Senior Economist, you will have responsibility for providing economic, commercial and competitive insights to covering growth regions around the globe (LATAM, Africa, Mideast Eurasia, S-East Asia, China). This role is responsible for translating the data behind economic & commodity megatrends to the CSGR leaders in a way that shapes operational and strategic planning.

What You Will Do
  • Analyze existing and emerging market trends across key commodity groups and provide guidance to long‑term planning processes.
  • Anticipate demand / projects and build a differentiated model to present analysis and forecasts to management, business unit leaders and industry stakeholders.
  • Drive insights to business partners through the integration and visualization of economic data into technical solutions and tools.
  • Provide analysis for input into quarterly releases, investment analyst meetings and corporate board meetings.
  • Provide advisory and inputs for ad‑hoc strategic initiatives (i.e. pricing, market planning, contract negotiations).
  • Coordinate business intelligence reports for senior leaders, focusing on market trends and customer / competitor activity.
  • Develop and maintain networks of people and resources to facilitate the transfer of knowledge between the economists and business units.
What You Have – Skills
  • Economic Analysis: Ability to investigate global economic activities, analyse economic performance and prepare reports to support organisational decision‑making.
  • Forecasting: Extensive knowledge of forecasting tools and analytical techniques; ability to analyze and scenario‑plan for how economic data influences product demand.
  • Business Markets: Experience evaluating markets, including from the perspectives of customers, competitors, suppliers and legislators; ability to apply market knowledge to development of analytics.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision‑making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyse situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgement.
  • Effective Communications: Strong ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas and information with senior leaders. Lead creation of content.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to manage concurrent activities and projects; effectively prioritise (and re‑prioritise) top tasks.

  • Education / Experience: Bachelor’s degree in economics (or related field) and 10+ years of job‑related experience.
  • Prior experience with commodity markets and mining, heavy construction or related industries.
  • Operates as a true business partner. Ability to build strong relationships and partner across functions to help drive the business.
  • Superior communication and influencing skills. An effective communicator with the ability to build relationships across an organisation.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity operating the Bloomberg Terminal.
Additional Information

This role will be based in Dubai with up to 20% travel. This role is on‑site five days a week.
