Job description
Overview

Execute the design of baseline modifications and design basis control and maintenance. Implement effective configuration control of design output documents (i.e., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements, and procedures) for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) as per the regulatory requirements, operating policies and principles, nuclear standards for nuclear safety, industrial safety, and environmental protection, to ensure overall Design Change objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Develop temporary or permanent design modifications, including business cases and cost benefit analyses, to plant systems, components, and structures to maintain and improve plant reliability and safety.
  • Lead small or emergent modifications projects to support improved reliability and efficiency in the plants.
  • Provide support in the management of functional locations and equipment master database to ensure accurate plant records for safety and maintainability.
  • Provide support to the configuration management process to keep the plant in configuration control.
  • Prepare or perform acceptance reviews of design changes packages and support the design change committee to keep modifications prioritized and well communicated.
  • Verify engineering documents and data to maintain accurate and useful records.
  • Develop cost-effective design change packages, in accordance with defined standards and procedures, when required to improve plant, system or equipment performance.
  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, engineering, and other plant or central organizations as required to solve technical issues. In particular, provide guidance on technical issues which challenge the current design and licensing basis.
  • Identify and respond to issues via the corrective action and work management processes to support safe, reliable operation.
  • Provide support in the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) operational peer reviews to align to industrial best practices.
  • Perform Design seismic qualification reviews and specification development to ensure consistency with seismic program requirements.
  • Perform the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) change impact assessment to ensure that design changes consistently with the requirements of the FSAR.
  • Perform calculations and analysis either from first principles or used approved engineering software packages. Ensure conformance with verification and validation requirements for calculation software.
  • Perform verification and review of engineering products such as design changes, calculations, drawings and technical evaluations.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with APR-1400 or OPR-1000 maintenance and engineering experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience, including greater than 1 year of experience in design of nuclear power plant systems or components.
