Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Purchaser to manage the procurement of materials, equipment, and services required for shipbuilding operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of marine-grade materials and the shipbuilding process, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for shipbuilding materials and equipment.
- Review technical drawings/specifications to determine material requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with vendors.
- Prepare and issue Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, and warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Track and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Resolve issues related to quality discrepancies, delivery delays, or vendor performance.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and maritime regulations.
- Use ERP or procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for purchase tracking and reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in shipbuilding or marine industry.
- Strong knowledge of shipbuilding materials and technical specifications.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software or ERP systems.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with international suppliers.
- Familiarity with Incoterms and import/export documentation.
- Certification in procurement or supply chain (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) is a plus.
