Overview

A Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in the fit out and construction sector is responsible for the technical leadership and management of mechanical systems design within commercial, residential, or mixed-use building projects. With 5 years of relevant experience, this professional serves as a key liaison between design, construction, and client stakeholders, ensuring compliance, coordination, and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Mechanical Design: Direct the mechanical design and coordination of fit out projects & managing design from concept through to construction stages.
  • Prepare Documentation: Produce detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, schematics, and schedules using CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • HVAC, Plumbing: Perform calculations and design for HVAC systems, plumbing, and public health systems to ensure building comfort, safety, and efficiency.
  • Site and Technical Assessments: Conduct site surveys, technical assessments, and participate in design and coordination meetings with architects, structural engineers, and contractors.
  • Compliance & Quality: Ensure all designs comply with local codes, international standards, and project-specific sustainability guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders—including consultants, suppliers, clients—for smooth project execution.
  • Project Planning & Supervision: Take part in project planning, resource organization, and supervise installation works and construction activities on site, overseeing quality and ensuring safety.
  • Material & Cost Management: Prepare material quantity surveys, estimates, and review bill of quantities (BOQ) to align with project budgets.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Professional engineering license preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years in fit out and construction, with a strong background in building services/mechanical design.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, etc.)

HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design

Strong understanding of building codes and standards

Ability to perform technical calculations and simulations

Soft Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills

Proven ability to manage deadlines and budgets
