Description
A leading manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Operations Manager with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of recycling processes and a commitment to operational excellence to join their team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The role requires strategic oversight of daily operations at the GP East facility, ensuring efficiency, safety, compliance and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage all daily operations, including processing, baling and shipping of materials.
- Monitor operational performance metrics, analyse data and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee the operational budget, cost control and resource allocation; identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Collaborate with Sales, Finance and other departments to align operations with business objectives.
- Develop and implement strategic plans, process improvements and initiatives to drive growth.
- Manage projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
- Lead, train and mentor Branch Managers and their teams, conducting performance reviews.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies and local/national regulations; oversee safety audits and corrective actions.
- Monitor production data, identify bottlenecks and implement process optimisation initiatives.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of plant equipment, ensuring preventative maintenance is followed.
- Manage inventory flow, coordinating with suppliers, transport companies and sales teams for timely collections and deliveries.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma; management certification advantageous.
- Minimum 5–7 years experience in a management or supervisory role within recycling, waste management or manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of recycling processes, material types (plastics, paper, metals) and market trends.
- Understanding of financial management, budgeting and cost analysis.
- Proven leadership and team motivation skills with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Own transportation required.
