Position Summary
The Restaurant Attendant provides courteous and professional food and beverage service across various dining venues, including room service and complimentary dining areas, ensuring compliance with Royal Caribbean International's standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver efficient food and beverage service, including room service and buffet settings.
- Maintain cleanliness, adhere to USPH and HACCP guidelines, and ensure guest privacy and security.
- Engage with guests using proper food and wine terminology, make recommendations, and handle additional requests.
- Attend training and fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of food and / or beverage service experience, preferably in a 4- or 5-star setting; banquet experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Fluent in English; additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese) are an advantage.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must participate in emergency procedures and drills.
Job Duties
- Perform all food service functions of dining; the working area is not limited to specific dining venues onboard.
- Provide service in room service, complimentary dining venues, Windjammer, and other venues.
- Follow Royal Caribbean International's Royal Way Standards, SQM standards, USPH and HACCP guidelines, environmental, and workplace safety policies.
- Participate in rotational service delivery schedule, working in complimentary dining venues and various other food and beverage service venues.
- Observe all security and guest privacy procedures when delivering to staterooms.
- Execute efficient and seamless service delivery of all meals to guests in their staterooms.
- Use appropriate food and wine terminology, learn menu descriptions and wine lists to discuss items appropriately with guests.
- Arrange settings on stateroom service trays, greet guests appropriately, present food and beverage to guests, and make recommendations to meet KPIs.
- Relay order to galley as required, serve courses from galley and beverages from various locations.
- Garnish and decorate dishes as required prior to serving.
- Enter food and beverage orders in the point-of-sale system.
- Observe guests to anticipate their needs and respond to additional requests.
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of working area in accordance with all USPH and company standards.
- Attend meetings, training activities, courses and all other work‑related activities as required.
- Carry dirty dishes from respective dining rooms to kitchen / galley.
- Wipe table tops and chairs with damp cloth, replace soiled table linens, and set tables with silverware and glassware.
- Actively follow Serv Safe responsible service of alcoholic beverages.
- Perform related duties as required.
Hiring Requirements
- Two‑year food and / or beverage service experience, preferably in a 4- or 5-star restaurant; banquet experience preferred.
- Ability to distinguish soft drink varieties.
- Knowledge of basic buffet food items.
- Apply customer service skills according to Royal Caribbean International's The Royal Way.
- Completion of high school or basic education equivalency preferred.
- Proficiency in English; additional languages such as Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese preferred.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell. Lifting / moving up to 50 pounds. Full use and range of arms and legs, and full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
Emergency Participation
All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Must participate in emergency procedures and drills.
