Job Specification : Finance Manager – Mining Industry

Location : Pretoria

Salary : R300 000 – R550 000 per annum (CTC)

Reporting to : Financial Director / Operations Director

About the Role

A leading organisation within the mining sector is seeking a highly capable Finance Manager to oversee financial operations, costing, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will be SAIPA or CIMA qualified and bring strong experience from the manufacturing or cost management environment , with the ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, process-driven industry.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Manage the full finance function, including accounts, cash flow, balance sheet, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts and year-end financial packs.
  • Conduct variance analysis, financial modelling, and KPI reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant financial records in line with applicable accounting standards.
Cost & Management Accounting
  • Oversee costing models, bill of materials, standard costing, and cost variance reporting.
  • Perform cost analysis and margin reporting to support operational decisions.
  • Work closely with production and operations teams to manage cost efficiencies.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes.
  • Provide strategic financial insight to senior management based on financial performance and cost trends.
  • Support business planning, feasibility studies, and capital expenditure evaluations.
Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure tax compliance (VAT, Income Tax, PAYE) and manage internal and external audits.
  • Implement robust internal financial controls.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff.
  • Manage workload allocation, performance, and development of the finance team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes and systems.
    Minimum Requirements
    • SAIPA or CIMA qualified (non-negotiable).
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance.
    • 5+ years’ experience in a finance role within the manufacturing, mining, or cost management environment.
    • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and manufacturing processes.
    • Experience partnering with production / operations teams.
    • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with relevant ERP / accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Syspro, Sage).
