Job description

We are searching for an Enrolled Nurse who will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/ or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for assessment and care as well as the needs of patients and will be responsible for assisting the scrub nurse during operations and keeping the operating room sterile. The Enrolled Nurse will perform nursing duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH) and National Core standards.

Responsibilities
  • Be active in preparing, controlling and replenishment of stock.
  • Support the patient on their arrival into the ward pre-and post-operatively.
  • Monitor a patient’s physiological and physical parameters.
  • Provide appropriate treatment until the patient has recovered from anaesthesia and/or surgery.
  • Assess the patient in order to ensure they have recovered and can be discharged.
  • Evaluate the care given during each phase.
  • Contributes to the holistic care of patients.
  • Effective Risk prevention and management or maintaining competence in CPR/BLS/Anaesthetic refresher course
  • Projects a positive professional image.
  • Promotes and maintains good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues, and doctors.
  • Practices the principles of infection prevention and all Standard precautions.
  • Provides the delivery of evidence-based nursing care.
  • Ensure that all patients have an appropriate nursing care plan.
  • Asses the types of surgery to be performed and expected number of patients.
  • Compliance with documentation policy.
  • Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed appropriately.
  • Maintains a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.
  • Function within own level of competence, within the legally recognised scope of practice and within all relevant legislation.
  • Assume responsibility for own personal and professional development.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining competence in CPR/BLS.
Qualifications
