Job Description: “PLC System Engineer/Senior Engineer (Maintenance & Troubleshooting)”

Role Overview

The PLC System Engineer is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of Port Quay/RTG Crane’s control systems. This role focuses on the maintaining, diagnosing, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI/SCADA) and communication parts between PLC & Drive (VFD) System to minimize downtime with all safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Preventive Maintenance: Execute scheduled inspections and software backups of Fuji Electric brand PLC/HMI/SCADA systems to prevent hardware failure or data loss.
• Rapid Troubleshooting (Breakdown): Diagnose complex system faults involving PLC CPU, I/O modules, communication networks (Profibus, Ethernet, RS232C, RS485), and field devices. Replace the necessary PLC hardware in case of failure.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of system faults that occur, update changes in the system/electrical schematics if any.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Investigate repetitive failures and implement long-term technical solutions rather than temporary “patch” fixes.
• Safety & Collaboration: Work closely with the customer to ensure safety protocols and earliest release of cranes to operation.

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

Education

Degree/Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.

Experience

3+ years in industrial automation, specifically in a maintenance or commissioning role.

PLC Software

Preferred: Proficiency in PLC brands such as FUJI ELECTRIC, SIEMENS, ABB, MITSUBISHI.

Networking

Strong understanding of PLC logic and communication protocols.

Schematics

Expert ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics.

Hard & Soft Skills requirement

• PLC Systems: Understanding & troubleshooting knowledge of PLC software (LD/FBD/IL/ST). Replacement of hardware according to failures.
• Crane Monitoring System (SCADA/HMI): Ability to understand alarms and troubleshoot according to fault information.
• Problem-Solving: A methodical approach to troubleshooting/debugging code under high-pressure, “machine-down” scenarios.
• Prior experience in Port Crane Application: Added advantage.
• Ability to team lead a group of Engineer/Technician
• Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and PWM Converters
• Good communication skill & attitude
• Familiarity with different kinds of measuring tools

Note: Engineer/Sr. Engineer designation will be measured by skills, years of specific experience and the ability to handle team/task independently.
