Job description

The Statistical Science Director role at AstraZeneca requires extensive experience as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry. As the Statistical Science Director, you will be responsible for leading the statistical strategy and technical activities related to project design, delivery, interpretation, high-level internal governance committees, and regulatory submissions. You will be recognized as a methodology expert externally and must demonstrate the ability to lead, perform, and communicate the results of complex analyses while guiding less experienced staff. Cross-functional collaboration is a key aspect of this role.Your accountabilities as a Statistical Science Director include leading the statistical design and strategy for product development plans, preclinical studies, regulatory strategy, health technology assessment, and commercial activities. You will ensure the quality of study designs, documents, delivery, interpretation, and submission, and effectively communicate the benefit, risk, value, and uncertainty of the emerging product profile within the team. Additionally, you will provide global leadership, partner with CROs, maintain knowledge of statistical methodology, and represent statistical strategy in internal decision-making governance.In terms of supporting statistical methodological advances, you are expected to have in-depth knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements in the pharma/healthcare industry. You should implement novel statistical approaches, have experience with regulatory interactions/submissions, possess excellent communication skills to build strong relationships, and be nationally recognized externally. Furthermore, you will mentor, coach, and support the technical education and training of Statistics staff.The essential skills and experience required for this role include an MSc/PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent, a track record of independent leadership, and exemplary technical skills.
