Role Summary

The main purpose of a Shipbroker is to act as a specialist intermediary/negotiator between shipowners and charterers to arrange ocean transport of goods and commodities by sea, the employment of a vessel or to buy/sell ships on behalf of a client. We are looking for a Senior Shipbroker to join our Tankers desk. You will work alongside other Shipbrokers and carry out various tasks as outlined in the description below. The ideal candidate will have some experience within chemical markets, and possess strong interpersonal skills, with a driven and self‑motivated approach. The ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic broking environment is also required.

What you will be doing
  • Instigate, arrange and negotiate deals, including relationship building to develop business
  • Daily contact with ship owners and charterers
  • Maintain a database of daily market activities and keep track of vessel positions
  • Negotiate charters to achieve optimum results for clients
  • Provide market insight and trade ideas to clients
  • Build strong rapport with existing clients and develop business with new clients
  • Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients
  • Maintain internal data flow of key market information

Other requirements
  • Previous experience or exposure of Tankers broking preferred, with at least 10 years’ relevant experience
  • Prior experience working in a global multinational company (MNC) is advantageous
  • Proven track record of building strong working relationships with clients and develop new business
  • Good commercial judgement with excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Fluency in English is essential to liaise with colleagues on desk as well as clients
  • Driven, self‑motivated and client‑focused
  • An outgoing and confident personality
  • Strong numeracy skills and excellent presentation skills
  • Confident and able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong MS office skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word
