Job Description

The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Fellow position in robotics and metal additive manufacturing. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Asst Prof Meng Xin from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This position is part of an exciting research programme aimed at advancing the multi-robotic wire-arc directed energy deposition technology and accelerating its practical adoption in construction and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the design and lead the commissioning and operation of the new metal additive manufacturing laboratory at NUS.
  • Conduct novel and impactful research in the areas of robotic manufacturing, printing process monitoring/optimisation, and construction automation.
  • Disseminate research findings through high-quality journal papers and presentations at international conferences.
  • Support the supervision and mentoring of PhD students.
  • Contribute to teaching and outreach activities.
Job Requirements
Essential
  • Possess a PhD in robotics, additive manufacturing, or a closely related field;
  • A strong portfolio of research and publications related to robotics and additive manufacturing;
  • Proficiency in programming;
  • Proficiency in additive manufacturing-related software, including 3D modelling and path planning;
  • Ability to integrate sensors (e.g. laser scanning, thermal imaging) for process monitoring and optimisation;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Open to fixed-term contract.
Desired
  • Hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing, particularly wire-arc directed energy deposition;
  • Technical knowledge of arc welding;
  • Knowledge and skills in AI.
