Starting Monthly Salary
A contribution equivalent to 7.75% of your gross salary will be credited monthly into your retirement account, starting from your 5th year in service and will cease when you reach 56 years old. The monies are invested to earn investment returns. Upon retirement, you can withdraw the full sum in your account.
You can look forward to cash payouts of 3‑month’s quantum of your gross salary (ASP and below) or 2.5 months quantum of your gross salary (DSP and above) upon reaching your 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 20th, and 25th year in service.
As a new entrant officer, you will be required to undergo a 30‑week Prison Officer Course which comprises a residential phase at the Home Team Academy and on‑the‑job training at one of the prison institutions. The course will equip you with the relevant knowledge and skills to perform your duties. All new Captains of Lives are required to serve a two‑year bond after graduating from the course.
You will also undergo regular in‑service training, relevant functional training and courses, and milestone leadership development programs for your professional growth as you advance in your career in corrections.
Under the HUS (Home Affairs Uniform Services) unified scheme, you can look forward to seamless and faster career progression up the ranks even without a degree, based on performance and potential.
After graduating from the Prison Officer course, you will be deployed as a Correctional Unit Officer (CUO) in one of the prison institutions. As a CUO, you will be part of a like‑minded and highly skilled team that ensures the safe and secure custody of inmates. You will also facilitate the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates and ex‑offenders. Through purposeful interactions, you will motivate and guide offenders towards a life without reoffending.
Under SPS structured career development framework, you may be deployed to other frontline operational work. Depending on suitability, you may also be posted to other functional areas such as Operations, Community Corrections, Intelligence, Investigation, Rehabilitation Services and Management, Technology, Training, Corporate Services, External Operations, Prison Emergency Action Response etc. Regular job rotation will provide you with the exposure and developmental opportunities to grow as a leader in corrections.
