Overview

Job Title: Principal Surveyor

Location: Singapore / Malaysia

Employment Type: Permanent

Role Summary:

Senior Survey professional required to lead conventional and remote offshore survey operations within the oil & gas / offshore energy sector. The role combines technical authority for offshore and remote survey activities with day-to-day leadership of survey teams and Remote Operations Centre (ROC) operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of high-quality survey data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership: Plan, authorise, and supervise offshore and remote survey missions, including mission planning, risk assessments, operational readiness, and go/no-go decision making.
  • Lead daily operational briefings and debriefings; manage operational deviations through Management of Change (MoC) processes.
  • Maintain full accountability for data quality across the survey lifecycle, including planning, calibration, quality control, and final deliverables approval.
  • Undertake offshore assignments as required by operational demands.
Technical Authority (Survey)
  • Develop, maintain, and govern survey methods, standards, and technical documentation.
  • Review and approve technical deviations and waivers; lead FAT, SAT, patch tests, and method statement approvals.
  • Oversee integration, configuration, and validation of survey systems, including multibeam/single beam echosounders, INS/DVL, USBL, and communication links.
QHSE & Compliance
  • Enforce best practices for survey safety, remote operations readiness, and operational efficiency.
  • Support and lead internal and external audits and inspections.
  • Lead incident investigations, capture lessons learned, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain emergency response preparedness, including drills for critical operational scenarios.
People & Capability Development
  • Provide line leadership to multidisciplinary survey teams, including offshore surveyors, USV pilots, and data processors.
  • Develop and implement structured competence frameworks, training programs, and assessment processes.
  • Mentor and coach personnel to build technical capability and operational excellence.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
  • Act as technical focal point for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Support bids and tenders by presenting survey methodologies, risk assessments, and quality assurance evidence.
  • Manage technical change requests and scope growth during project execution.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong background in offshore and remote survey operations within oil & gas or offshore energy.
  • Proven experience in leading survey teams and acting as technical authority.
  • Hands-on expertise with hydrographic and positioning systems (MBES, SBES, INS, DVL, USBL).
  • Solid understanding of QHSE, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
