Job summary

A leading offshore equipment company based in Singapore is seeking a Painting / Coating Superintendent to supervise and manage coating works on jack-up rigs. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in a similar role, particularly in offshore or shipyard environments. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with safety policies, coordinating with various teams, and maintaining high standards of quality control. Strong leadership and contractor management skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 – 8 years’ experience in offshore or shipyard painting works.
  • At least 5 years as Painting / Coating Superintendent on jack-up rigs or offshore units.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale blasting and painting campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise surface preparation and coating works on jack-up rigs.
  • Ensure correct execution of blasting and painting applications.
  • Interpret coating specifications and control environmental conditions.
  • Coordinate with multiple teams to ensure work readiness.
  • Liaise with clients and third-party inspectors.
  • Monitor daily progress and material consumption.

Job description
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Execution
  • Supervise surface preparation and coating works on jack‑up rigs, including hull, legs, spud cans, decks, tanks, piping, and offshore structures.

  • Ensure correct execution of blasting, water jetting, mechanical cleaning, priming, intermediate, and topcoat applications.

  • Interpret coating specifications, paint schemes, data sheets, and project requirements.

  • Control environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) during painting activities.

Project & Coordination
  • Coordinate with Hull, Piping, Mechanical, Scaffolding, and Access teams to ensure work readiness.

  • Liaise with Client, Class, Paint Manufacturer Representatives, and third‑party coating inspectors.

  • Plan manpower, equipment, consumables, and work sequences to meet tight schedules.

  • Monitor daily progress, productivity, and material consumption.

Quality Control
  • Ensure compliance with approved ITPs, coating procedures, and paint manufacturer guidelines.

  • Supervise inspection activities including surface profile, DFT, adhesion testing, and holiday testing.

  • Maintain coating records, daily reports, inspection logs, and as‑built documentation.

Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce shipyard HSE policies related to blasting, painting, chemical handling, and working at height.

  • Ensure compliance with PTW, confined space entry, and ventilation requirements.

  • Conduct toolbox talks and risk assessments specific to coating activities.

Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory
  • Diploma or equivalent technical qualification (Engineering / Coatings / Marine).

  • Minimum 5 – 8 years’ experience in offshore or shipyard painting works.

  • At least 5 years as Painting / Coating Superintendent on jack‑up rigs or offshore units.

  • Proven experience managing large‑scale blasting and painting campaigns.

Technical Knowledge
  • Offshore coating standards (NORSOK, IMO PSPC, ISO 12944).

  • Blasting standards (SA 2.5, SSPC, water jetting grades).

  • Epoxy, polyurethane, zinc, fireproofing, and specialized offshore coatings.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong leadership and contractor management skills.

  • Good understanding of productivity, material control, and cost impact.

  • Ability to work under high‑pressure dry‑dock schedules.

  • Clear communication with clients, inspectors, and production teams.

Working Conditions
  • Shipyard and onboard jack‑up rig environment.

  • Exposure to weather‑dependent operations and extended working hours.
