Job description

Working in the laboratory environment to perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures while rotating through various clinical sections and work shift to deliver accurate, reliable and precise test results in a prompt and efficient manner which assists the physicians in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients condition.

Assist Section Manager in the operational function of one of the clinical section or bench and directly supports to achieve facility laboratory management objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Performs and verifies or approves results for a variety of laboratory tests and procedures in the Microbiology laboratory.
  • Performs primary weekly or monthly QC, review of QC results in the Microbiology laboratory and.
  • troubleshoots QC data if there are any biases.
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of instruments used in the laboratory and to report to section lead of instruments not functioning properly.
  • Participates in any inter-laboratory quality assurance (IQA), external quality assurance (EQA) and.
  • proficiency testing programs that the laboratory is subscribed to and investigates failures if any.
  • Participates and performs required validation protocols for new test or instrument set-up and submits report to section lead.
  • Reviews relevant laboratory SOPs annually and supports section lead in annual review or drafting
  • in Microbiology SOPs.
  • Train and guide junior staff in the Microbiology laboratory.
  • Participates in internal or external continuing medical education (CME) and other professional development programs which includes performing in-house training or CME presentation for junior MT staff.
  • Participates in the annual quality improvement projects.
  • Performs compliance checks of all applicable safety regulations in the laboratory and reports non-compliances to laboratory safety officers for corrective actions.
  • In the absence of Senior Medical Technologist, directly assist the section lead to ensure continuous operational services.
Qualification
  • Recognized Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent.
  • 5 years working experience in a Clinical Laboratory.
  • Working experience in 1 of the clinical laboratory sections
