NHG’s HC scheme offers our HCs a structured, broad-based training pathway that sharpens your clinical acumen and builds leadership capabilities; setting you on a trajectory toward clinical and administrative leadership within the healthcare ecosystem.
From the onset, you will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering patient care services across NHG’s suite of acute and community hospitals. You will do this in close and meaningful partnership with specialists, nurses and allied health professionals and make a real difference to our patients’ lives.
You can look forward to be deployed in either the medical or peri-operative domain with exposure to a broad spectrum of clinical disciplines.
- Conduct initial patient assessments and develop treatment/management plans.
- Perform routine reviews, maintain documentation, communication, changes, and simple procedures.
- Identify critically unwell patients and initiate early resuscitation with support from senior doctors.
- Perform common ward-based/bedside procedures under guidance/supervision from Senior Residents and/or specialists, including completing pre- and post-procedure documentation as well as obtaining consent.
- Guide House Officers in the clerking of cases. Supervise them in the performance of procedures, helping them, if necessary, especially with the more complex cases.
- Prepare medical reports where urgent reports should be prepared, if possible, within 48 hours, and reports for non-urgent requests within two weeks.
- Assist Senior Residents and specialists in the running of Specialist Outpatient Clinics and Operating Theatres.
- Conduct discussions and documentation of advanced care planning; as well as preparing death certification.
GENERAL SKILLSETS
Hospital Clinicians are expected to demonstrate:
- Advanced triage (able to recognize complex conditions requiring consultation from relevant specialists).
- Broad-based diagnoses and clinical management.
- Holistic management of acute presentation in conjunction with pre-existing comorbidities.
- Inter-disciplinary coordination of care between different specialties and professional groups.
- Comprehensive transition of care beyond (sub)acute setting, including discharge planning, advanced care planning.
- Pre-operative risk evaluation and optimization.
- Post-operative care (drain, ventilation, nutrition, rehabilitation), recognition of complications requiring specialist intervention.
The Hospital Clinicians are also expected to perform the roles:
- Actively participate as a member or team lead for quality improvement projects and/or educational activities and/or administrative duties at a hospital-wide / departmental level.
- Perform any other duties as directed by senior medical staff in their respective departments
JOB REQUIREMENTS
(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Be either a Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident or local-trained foreigner and have at least two years (full-time equivalent) of work experience as a Medical Officer (MO), MO-equivalent or above in Singapore; or
- Be a foreign-trained doctor who have at least five years of practice as an MO in the MOPEX pool and still employed by MOH Holdings
All candidates must have obtained a letter of recommendation from a supervisor or senior clinician on his/her suitability to join the scheme.
- Doctors must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and issued with a valid Practicing Certificate.
- Obtained either Full or Conditional Registration with Singapore Medical Council (SMC). Doctors with conditional registration with SMC are to practise within the conditions of their registration.
